Changing the World One Loaf at a Time: College Student Devises Her Own Recipe for Global Service, Expands to Colleges Nationwide
Two years ago, ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ senior Elisabeth Winkelman used her now famous recipe for baking challah bread to raise money for victims of the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. Her program, Challah for Hunger, is expanding to campuses across the nation, including NYU, Smith College, University of Rochester, and University of Texas at Austin, with more to come, and has received recognition from Elie Wiesel and Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, the Chief Rabbi of England.

The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ Humanities Institute begins its spring 2007 program, “L.A. Palimpsest: Recovering Los Angeles’ Hidden Stories and Forgotten Communities,” with an opening lecture “Landscape of Soul: Hollywood, Watts, and Beyond,” on Tuesday, January 23, at 7:30 p.m. with poet and performance artist Wanda Coleman in the Garrison Theater, ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ Performing Arts Center.
