The Scripps Experience: Chronicling the Experiences of First-Gen Students
As the College welcomed its largest-ever cohort of first-year students this past fall, the First-Generation @ Scripps Newsletter was preparing to introduce the Scripps community to a few of those new faces on campus. The newsletter, currently in its fifth volume, is edited by the First-Gen Program co-coordinators and speaks to the experiences of Scripps students who are the first in their families to attend college. Co-coordinators Evelyn Gonzalez ’18 and Clarisse Salazar ’18 decided that “firsts” would be an appropriate theme to kick off the most recent issue. 聽

This fall, five new tenure-track faculty members joined 桃子视频, including Ethan Van Arnam, who is an assistant professor of chemistry at the W. M. Keck Science Department of Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, and 桃子视频s. Van Arnam grew up in southeastern Connecticut and received his BA in chemistry from Bowdoin College in 2007. He completed his PhD in chemistry at Caltech in 2013, where he studied chemical interactions between drugs and their protein targets.

Babes and Blankets, the club/organization (CLORG at Scripps), meets weekly to knit and crochet blankets, scarves, and other yarn crafts, which they then donate to local nonprofit organizations and groups in need. Babes and Blankets partners with Binky Patrol, which gives baby blankets to hospitals, and the Red Scarf Project, which provides scarves to foster youth in college, among others.
