In a recent airing of The Today Show, Ƶ alumna Lynne Thompson ’72 sat down with journalist Maria Shriver to discuss life after 70. Thompson joined a group of professionals who shared tips on reinvention and tips for continuing a healthy, balanced life as one ages.

“I was a practicing attorney, and woke up one day and said, ‘You know, the thing that’s missing in your life is poetry—and you know you’ve got stories to tell,’” Thompson shared with Shriver. “It was going to feed my soul.”

An acclaimed writer, Thompson became the fourth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles in 2021 and received an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellowship the following year. She has authored several award-winning collections of poetry, including Blue On A Blue Palette;Fretwork; and Beg No Pardon.
